…Announces 2026 Divine Service

LAGOS — The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State Chapter, has called on churches across the country to continue serving as a moral compass and stabilising force for the nation, even as it announced plans for its 2026 Inter-Denominational Divine Service (IDDS) with a message of hope centred on “Immanuel: God With Us.”
Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, the CAN Lagos State Chairman, Stephen Adegbite, said the church must remain a beacon of light amid the economic and social challenges facing the nation.
The 2026 IDDS is scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at The Apostolic Church Nigeria, LAWNA Territorial Headquarters, Olorunda, Ketu, Lagos State. The theme, drawn from Matthew 1:23, “Immanuel: God With Us,” was described by Adegbite as both a promise and assurance.
“It reminds us that in seasons of economic strain, social pressure, governance challenges, and personal uncertainty, God remains present with His people. It is a message of hope, unity, divine guidance, and restoration,” he said.
Adegbite noted that the Inter-Denominational Divine Service represents more than an annual ceremony, describing it as a spiritual convergence of believers across denominations — Catholic, Protestant, Pentecostal, Evangelical, and African Instituted Churches — united in prayer for Lagos State and Nigeria.
The Guest Preacher for the gathering will be Ezekiel Babatunde Omidina, pioneer Chairman of ECWA Lagos Central District Church Council, whom Adegbite described as a seasoned spiritual leader whose ministry has impacted many lives.
Addressing the state of the nation, Adegbite acknowledged Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges, including inflation and structural adjustments affecting citizens. He, however, expressed optimism that these issues are being addressed through policy measures by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at stabilising the economy, strengthening institutions, and positioning the country for long-term growth.
He cited emerging indicators of positive outcomes and urged patience, constructive engagement, and continued prayers for national leaders.
In a related development, Adegbite announced that the CAN Lagos State Chapter has completed and furnished a new secretariat at Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, which will be officially opened on the morning of the Divine Service.
Reaffirming CAN’s commitment to promoting harmony, justice, accountability, and godly values, he called on citizens to embrace peace, righteousness, unity, and responsible citizenship.
Adegbite also urged Christians across Lagos State to attend the sacred assembly in large numbers and invited residents of goodwill to join in seeking divine guidance for the state and the nation.
