Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kano State have rescued a five-year-old boy, Muhammad Haruna, who was abducted in Minjibir Local Government Area, and arrested a suspect in connection with the crime.

Security sources disclosed that the child was rescued during a targeted operation at Danzaki Village on the evening of February 12, 2026, following a formal complaint by the victim’s family.

According to the sources, the abductors had demanded a ransom of ₦15 million for the child’s release. Acting on intelligence, a DSS tactical team tracked the suspects and carried out a coordinated operation that led to the safe recovery of the minor at about 7:40 p.m.

During the operation, a 20-year-old suspect identified as Aminu Mukhtar was arrested while allegedly negotiating ransom payment with the victim’s father via a mobile phone line. Preliminary questioning reportedly revealed that the suspect admitted to abducting the child with the intention of collecting ransom.

The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue. Authorities confirmed that the rescued child has been placed under protective care while necessary procedures related to the case are being completed.
