Member of the Nigeria Environmental Society, Dr Valentine Opone, has described the decision of President Bola Tinubu to appoint the former Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, as the South-South Renewed Hope Initiative Coordinator as commendable.
Opone said the decision means that the mantle of leadership has once again fallen on Okowa, whom he described as a people’s leader, to champion the re-election of Tinubu in 2027.
The Registered Environmental Specialist, USA, in a statement, described Okowa as an ideal candidate for the role, saying with his wealth of experience in the South-South political terrain, he would deliver the zone.
The statement reads: “Dr Ifeanyichukwu Okowa is the immediate past Governor of Delta State. Prior to becoming governor of Delta State, he rose through the ranks, serving as a local government chairman in Ika Council, Commissioner for Agriculture, Secretary to the Delta State Government, as well as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing the good people of Delta North Senatorial District.
“He also galvanised support for the election of the incumbent Governor of the state, a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Sir Sheriff Oborevwori.
“Following the new appointment of our erudite leader, Okowa, by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the South-South Renewed Hope Initiative Coordinator, this means that the mantle of leadership has once again fallen on the people’s leader to champion the re-election of Mr President in 2027.
“The appointment is well deserved, owing to the wealth of experience Okowa has garnered over the years, as well as his robust strategic influence at home in Delta State and across the entire South-South region. Hence, he is an ideal candidate for the role. In the same vein, I sincerely applaud the President’s decision in recognising Okowa’s capacity to deliver. I am fully confident that Okowa and his team will achieve great success in the task ahead of them.
“You will recall that while in office as Governor of Delta State, Okowa’s notable achievements spanned all facets of the economy and development in the state, including investments in infrastructure and agriculture, improved education and healthcare delivery, and a strengthened state security network.
“It is in this regard that the people of the state continue to shower encomiums on the former governor for his responsive leadership prowess, unique and inclusive style of governance, which brought and sustained peace and unity in the state to date, progressive policies, and visionary leadership.
“No doubt, the people of the South-South region will view this appointment as another milestone in regional representation in Mr President’s cabinet.”
