Rivers United team manager, Festus Austine, has admitted that the team encountered several setbacks that affected their performance in the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
The Pride of Rivers garnered only one point from five matches.
Austine said the team needs to improve the quality of players it recruits in order to compete against the best on the continent.
“In the group stage of the CAF Champions League, we faced some setbacks that affected our output on the continent,” Austine stated on his social media handle.
“We gained a lot of experience from what happened, but we just have to improve the quality of players we recruit at this level.
“Due to the financial situation in the league, most quality players do not stay, as they prefer to move abroad for better pay.”
