At least one person has been killed and another injured after an attack by unknown assailants during a criminal conspiracy to steal domestic animals in Damagum Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The development was disclosed in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region.
Makama noted that on February 8, at about 11:00 a.m., Adamu Joldi Dajjo, 25, and Yuse Buba, 20, both of Yola Hamlet via Shanga Village, allegedly conspired to steal two rams from the bush area of Abakire Village using a Kasea motorcycle.
The publication added that while passing through Gununu Village at around 3:00 p.m., the duo were ambushed by three unknown men dressed in black, each armed with a dane gun.
It further revealed that during the attack, Yuse Buba sustained gunshot injuries to his right hand, while Adamu Joldi Dajjo was shot in the back and face. The attackers also made away with the Kasea motorcycle.
According to the publication, Joldi was rushed to General Hospital Damagum where he was pronounced dead by the medical doctor, while Yuse Buba was referred to Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Damaturu for further treatment. The corpse of Joldi has been released to his relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.
“Police personnel who visited the scene recovered one live ram and one slaughtered ram, which were registered as exhibits.
“The Police said that efforts to identify and apprehend the attackers are ongoing. The case is under preliminary investigation,” Makama said.
