Bauchi State recorded a major highlight in its Golden Jubilee celebrations with the hosting of a high-profile public lecture that brought together political leaders, diplomats, traditional rulers, and citizens to reflect on the state’s 50-year journey, achievements, and future aspirations.
The landmark event, held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Bauchi, attracted a distinguished audience, including the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde; former Governors of Bauchi State; the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Gautier Mignot; traditional rulers; and senior government officials from within and outside the country.
Beyond the ceremonial atmosphere, the gathering provided an opportunity for collective reflection on Bauchi State’s growth, challenges, and milestones over the past five decades, highlighting how far the state has progressed since its creation.
A special panel session featuring former governors enriched the discourse, as past leaders shared personal experiences from their years in office, lessons learned, and the complexities of governance during their respective administrations.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Gautier Mignot commended Governor Bala Mohammed for the visible development across the state, expressing optimism that Bauchi would continue on its path of growth through strong partnerships and people-centred policies.
He applauded the governor’s performance and expressed hope that sustained collaboration and inclusive governance would deliver lasting benefits to the people of Bauchi State.
The Chairman of the occasion and former Governor of Bauchi, Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, also praised the current administration and urged present and future leaders to consolidate existing gains through policy continuity and unwavering commitment to a clear development vision.
In his remarks, Governor Bala Mohammed thanked guests and stakeholders for standing with Bauchi State at 50, reaffirming his administration’s determination to build an economically self-sustaining state that is attractive to investors.
He noted that the Golden Jubilee celebrations are not only a time for reflection but also an opportunity to strengthen unity and foster a shared vision for the future.
Later in the evening, a colourful Durbar procession was held to showcase Bauchi State’s rich cultural heritage. The event was attended by Emirs, traditional title holders, cultural enthusiasts, and foreign visitors, further highlighting the state’s diverse cultural identity.
As part of the celebrations, current and past leaders who have steered the affairs of the state at both national and global levels gathered at the ICC Bauchi for a Dinner and Awards Night, recognising excellence and outstanding contributions to the state’s development.
The Golden Jubilee celebrations also brought to the fore Bauchi State’s history, cultural heritage, natural resources, and vast potentials, while honouring individuals whose selfless service has inspired progress over the years.
Speaking separately, the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to collaboration and policies that will enhance livelihoods and drive economic growth across the state.
Governor Mohammed commended all dignitaries and participants for honouring the state with their presence and reiterated his commitment to positioning Bauchi State as a leading investment and sustainable development destination.
