Monaco drop Pogba from Champions League squad – Report

Paul Pogba

AS Monaco have left Paul Pogba out of their Champions League squad for the knockout rounds to accommodate players signed in the January transfer window, according to ESPN.

The French club is said to have decided to free up space for recent arrivals Simon Adingra and Wout Faes, both of whom are expected to play key roles in the upcoming Champions League playoff ties against Paris Saint-Germain later this month.

Pogba, who will celebrate his 33rd birthday next month, has endured a difficult campaign marked by limited game time and recurring fitness issues. He has featured just three times for Monaco this season, all as brief substitute appearances — two five-minute cameos against Rennes and PSG in November, and another outing off the bench against Brest.

The former Juventus midfielder joined Monaco in June following an 18-month suspension for a doping offence. He initially struggled to regain full match fitness before suffering minor thigh problems and later an ankle injury that further disrupted his return.

Pogba is currently sidelined with a calf injury sustained in early December, although he is reportedly close to making his return in the coming days.

Despite that, sources indicate he was unlikely to feature prominently in the Champions League, with Monaco prioritising the inclusion of their January signings, who are tipped to start against PSG.
