‘Your Life Is An Award,’ Odumeje Tells Davido Over Grammy Loss

Published:

Popular Anambra-based cleric, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, has advised Afrobeat star David Adeleke, popularly called Davido, to remain focused on his music and not be distracted by the outcome of award events.

Speaking to his congregation in a viral video on social media on Wednesday, Odumeje described Davido as an exceptional musician whose achievements transcend trophies and formal recognition.

“There is one of our brothers that I love so much. He is a very great musician, and that is Davido,” the cleric said. “You are already a generational award, awarded a lot of awards.”

According to him, lack of more accolades would not diminish the value of Davido’s musical legacy.

“There is no award that you will receive now that means anything. You have already received every award you need. Your life is an award. Your step is an award,” he added.

Odumeje also urged the singer not to allow criticism or disappointment over the recent Grammy Awards to affect his confidence or creative drive.

“Don’t allow ordinary somebody to come and begin to use it to quench the fire of your joy,” he said. “Go out and get more inspiration to shock the world with another new music. Don’t go where you are not accepted.”

He further cautioned Davido against giving room to negative voices.

“You are already on top of the world. The world is the one that will come into you. Don’t allow people to demoralise you, demoralise your quality, decentralise you, and make you weak,” Odumeje said.

LEADERSHIP reports that South African singer Tyla won the ‘Best African Music Performance’ award at the 2026 Grammy Awards last weekend, defeating Nigerian artistes Davido, Burna Boy and Ayra Starr in the category.
