Osun group launches teachers’ transformative initiative

  • Seeks support for the Secretariat building

By Shina Abubakar Osogbo

The Osun Development Agenda, ODA, has launched a teachers’ transformation and empowerment initiative to better equipped them on service delivery.

While laying the foundation stone of its Secretariat which coincides with its 30th anniversary, the group also sought the support of the State Government to deliver on its mandate.

Chairman of the Group, Dr Segun Aina after flagging off the secretariat projects in Osogbo, the State capital on Thursday, he said the group focused on teachers due to their importance in society.

“We choose teachers for the transformative project because of their impacts in the lives and formation of individuals and our society. Teachers moulded each professional to what they become in society.

“That we have these quality and diverse professionals around for the twin projects would be successful, especially with the commitment we get from the State Government and some individuals. We are a non-partisan group but one which is committed to serving the people of the State irrespective of political party or religious affiliation”, he said.

Also, the Co-founder, One Million Teachers, an international group based in Canada, Professor Hakeem Subair, pledged to assist in the capacity building for teachers in line with the ODA’s initiative.

He said the group has been supporting teachers across many countries and will now focus on Osun State with capacity building for 5,000 teachers across the State.

“One million teachers group will work with ODA as technical partners to start training and transforming teachers in the State in the first phase which will increase with time. Our focus is to start with teachers which we know will impact the society later”, he said.

Meanwhile, the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who was represented by Commissioner for Commercial and Industries, Bunmi Jenyo said the State Government would support the social responsibility of the group by donating 28 hectares of land to the initiative of the group.
