The Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), says it has intercepted contrabands with a Duty Paid Value of N721m in the first 28 days of January, 2026.
The seized items include 1,042 bags of smuggled rice weighing 50kg each, 3,738 parcels of cannabis sativa,780 used tyres,
2unit of locally made riffles, 198 pieces of cartridges, 473 kegs of PMS (11,825 liters), 6used vehicles and one means of conveyance.
Others are four sacks 25kg of Caffeine Ahydrous, 72 packs soduku plant extraction Toothpaste- 120g, 84 Soduku Vitamin D 108g each and 2 pieces of traditional carvings.
The Acting Area Comptroller, Controller Olukayode Afeni, made this known on Thursday, in a press conference at the commands headquarters, Idiroko.
Afeni noted that the feat was achieved through a robust collaboration with all government agencies in Idiroko-Igolo border, host communities, traditional institutions and other sister agencies.
He added that the command collected and remitted the sum of N106bn to the federation account which is above what was generated same month last year with N 89.6M which represent 84.3% increment.
Afeni said, “Ogun I command under my watch will act decisively to nip antiquity theft in the bud to protect our national legacy. The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) N721,453,612.
“It might interest you to know that Arms and Ammunition is classified under schedule 4 of ABSOLUTE PROHIBITION LIST of the Common External Tariff of Nigeria Customs Service. The two seized traditional carvings will be sent for expert appraisal to determine the next course of action.
“This monumental Seizure is very commendable at the backdrop of the heightened insecurity in the land. Should 1,315 explosives and 2,128 three round of lives ammunition of this magnitude escaped into the country and falls in wrong hands, the consequences will be devastating.
“We have achieved this through the diligent efforts of our officers and the cooperation of compliant traders. The revenue was actualized through the collection from baggage assessment, proceeds from auction sales of seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).”
He revealed that the command in year 2025 made a total of 487 seizures at a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N4.1bn, while the duty paid value of corresponding year 2024 was N1,791,007,246.
The Comptroller noted that the intercepted parcels of cannabis sativa were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko special command, while 2,128 red star cartridges, 1,315 pieces of iordin explosives, 11 units of Dane guns, 2 units of revolver pistol and two locally made guns would be handed over to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) South West Zone.
