Obasanjo’s Daughter Iyabo Joins APC In Ogun

Published:

Amidst speculations and uncertainty, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Wednesday, registered as a full-fledged member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

Iyabo, who once represented Ogun Central Senatorial District in the Senate between 2003 and 2007 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), completed her online registration as member of the Ogun State chapter of APC for the Ibogun Ward 11 under the Ifo local government area on Wednesday.

Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo herself confirmed to newsmen in Abeokuta about her movement to the ruling APC in having left the PDP.

Prior to her confirmation, speculations were rife in Abeokuta, the state capital, that the former Commissioner for Health during the Otunba Gbenga Daniel-led PDP administration in the State was planning to defect to the APC.

Former chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government and a close ally of Obasanjo, Hon. Biodun Ajayi, had earlier hinted that Iyabo Obasanjo was going to join the APC.

Ajayi was quoted as saying that: “I can confirm to you that Prof Iyabo Obasanjo on Tuesday at Ibogun Ward 11 of Ifo Local Government, completed her online registration as member of our great party, the All Progressives Congress.”

But as a way of putting th rumour to rest, Iyabo herself emphasised that her movement to the APC was correct, adding that in due course she will speak extensively on the defection from PDP.

LEADERSHIP recalls that Prof. Obasanjo’s billboards, featuring her photograph, had in year 2025, adorned strategic locations across the state, thereby causing speculations about her possible political return ahead of the 2027 elections.

The inscriptions on the billboards reads, “In Ogun State, we know ourselves. Sen (Prof) Iyabo Obasanjo. Omo wa ni, eniyan wa ni, ara wa ni.”
