Six abducted as gunmen raid Adamawa governor’s home town

Published:

In a chilling reminder of the reach of insecurity, suspected terrorists stormed Madagali—the hometown of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri—in the early hours of Tuesday.

The raid on Gare Village in the Pallam District resulted in the abduction of six family members and the theft of local livestock.

The attack comes at a particularly poignant moment, as Governor Fintiri had just kicked off a tour of the state’s 21 local government areas to evaluate security challenges firsthand.

The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the breach and initiated a high-stakes search-and-rescue mission. SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command’s spokesperson, detailed the incident in a formal briefing:

“The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed an attack on Gare Village, Pallam District, Madagali Local Government Area, in the early hours of today by suspected terrorists, which led to the abduction of a six family members and the rustling of livestock.”

To recover the victims, the police are not working alone. A multi-agency task force is currently combing the rugged terrain of the Madagali border communities. Nguroje explained the scale of the mobilization: “Upon receipt of the report, the Command immediately intensified collaboration and deployed additional personnel and operational assets in a joint operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, Troops of 144 Battalion, and the Civilian Joint Task Force to the affected area and surrounding communities.”

With the Governor’s native soil targeted, the pressure to deliver results is immense. Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris has reportedly ordered his men to maintain a high-pressure environment until the captives are returned.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed sustained search-and-rescue operations, reinforced patrols, and beefed up security presence across Madagali and other border communities to ensure the safe rescue and return of the victims and prevent further threats,” Nguroje added.

The command also sought to reassure the public that they are standing firm against the rising tide of violence: “The command in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other sister security agencies, remain fully committed to protecting lives and properties across the State,” he said, noting that “further updates will be communicated.”

The abduction in Madagali is the latest in a string of violent episodes that have gripped Adamawa recently. Despite the government’s efforts to stabilize the region, the security landscape remains volatile.

Recent Security Incidents in Adamawa:

– Hong LGA: A recent attack left 12 residents dead and several homes in ashes.
– Lamurde LGA: Earlier this year, a fierce communal clash between the Bachama and Chobo communities claimed over 20 lives.
– Madagali LGA:*Now faces the trauma of targeted abductions in the Governor’s backyard.

The timing of this raid highlights the uphill battle facing state authorities as they attempt to secure a region plagued by both localized communal friction and organized terror.
