Two killed as bandits attack Gombe community

Published:

At least two people were killed on Saturday evening after suspected bandits attacked Galadima Pindiga in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The was disclosed in a post on X on Sunday by Bakatsine, a conflict and crisis journalist who reports on insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest.

During the raid, the assailants reportedly set several houses ablaze, forcing residents to flee and triggering renewed panic in communities already battling persistent insecurity across the Pindiga axis.

The latest attack adds to a growing list of violent incidents recorded in the area over the past month.

Communities affected include Pindiga, Mamuda, Rahama, Laro, Galadima, Sabon Kaura, and Lombo, where armed groups have carried out repeated raids, resulting in deaths and multiple abductions.

Local professional hunters, working in collaboration with security agencies, have managed to rescue some abducted victims in recent weeks.

However, residents say the frequency and spread of the attacks suggest a widening security gap in the largely rural and agrarian region.

Community leaders have renewed calls on the Gombe State Government to intensify intervention measures.

Key demands include improving road access between Pindiga, Mamuda, and Kaltanga to enable rapid security response, increasing the deployment of security personnel, and providing better equipment and logistical support for local hunters assisting in security operations.

The Pindiga axis is considered a major farming hub that supports thousands of residents across the state.

Stakeholders warn that continued attacks could disrupt agricultural activities, worsen food security, and trigger broader humanitarian challenges in the region.
