Customs debunks fake recruitment update, warns applicants against scammers

Published:

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed a viral recruitment update circulating online, warning applicants to ignore the misleading information and rely only on announcements from its official social media platforms.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Thursday, the agency clarified:

“The graphic circulating on social media regarding our recruitment exercise is misleading and should be disregarded.”

The fake publication had claimed that certain candidates had advanced to the next stage of recruitment and provided instructions for payment and login procedures for the Superintendent Cadre.

The NCS stressed that the update was fraudulent, reiterating that it does not request payment for recruitment. Applicants were cautioned against clicking on unofficial links or engaging with the misleading graphic.

The agency emphasised:

“All candidates are advised to follow official announcements. Strict compliance with verified instructions is mandatory. Failure to adhere may lead to automatic disqualification.”

It further reminded the public that all official payments are made only through approved government channels, warning that anyone asked to transfer funds into a personal account in the name of the NCS is being targeted by scammers.

Applicants were urged to protect themselves by:

  • Avoiding payments into personal bank accounts.
  • Steering clear of unofficial intermediaries.
  • Verifying all information through official NCS platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and TikTok.

The service concluded by reaffirming its commitment to transparency and cautioned applicants to disregard all unofficial recruitment messages circulating online.
