Amid mounting speculation about his possible switch of allegiance, Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday evening.
The closed-door meeting has fuelled rumours that the governor, elected on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), may be considering a move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, there were reports that talks over the alleged defection have hit a snag, following the APC’s refusal to accede to the governor’s purported demand for an automatic ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kano State.
Meanwhile, the NNPP’s national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has dismissed claims that he endorsed any planned defection by the governor, insisting that no such approval was given.
