The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has commended the Kano State Police Command for the arrest of three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of the Kano metropolis.
Senator Barau gave the commendation in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, on Sunday, describing the arrests as soothing news and calling for a thorough investigation and speedy trial of the suspects.
The Kano State Police Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, had earlier disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the suspects arrested were Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters, Kano; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as “Chebe,” 40, of Sagagi Quarters, Kano; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as “Wawo,” 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, Kano.
“I commend the command for its swiftness. This is the first step. The command should conduct a thorough investigation and ensure a speedy trial so that these killers are prosecuted and brought to book,” Senator Barau said.
He stressed that the suspects must face the full wrath of the law, noting that the matter would be followed to its logical conclusion.
“Over the past hours, I have been traumatised, devastated and overwhelmed by the gruesome murder of these innocent children and their mother. This is barbaric and beyond comprehension,” he added.
The Deputy Senate President also prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and for strength for the bereaved family.
“May Almighty Allah grant the victims Aljannatul Firdaus and give the husband and father of the children, Haruna Bashir, the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.
