Popular activist and co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has described the 2027 general election cycle as a defining moment that offers Nigerians an opportunity to fight for their lives.
Yesufu cautioned that there would be no “miracles” or external intervention to rescue Nigeria in 2027, stressing that the burden of change rests squarely on Nigerians.
In a post on X, she urged Nigerians to abandon expectations that divine or outside forces would fix the nation’s problems, noting that meaningful change can only come through active civic participation.
According to her, what many described as a miracle is simply God preserving citizens’ lives and giving them the opportunity to take part in choosing their leaders.
She emphasised the need for Nigerians to make informed political choices, warning against shifting responsibility to divine intervention while neglecting their civic duties.
Yesufu further warned that the struggle for Nigeria’s future was already underway, describing the 2027 polls as a critical battle that will determine the country’s survival and direction.
“In case you missed my New Year message, no one is coming to save us,” she wrote.
“It is we, Nigerians, that will save ourselves.
“The miracle we pray for is God keeping us alive to be part of the decision-makers on who will govern Nigeria.
“The time for decision-making is now. We should not abdicate our responsibility to God and refuse to do the needful.
“The 2027 election is Nigerians fighting for their lives, and it has already started,” Yesufu added.
