Matchday! Super Eagles battle hosts Morocco for AFCON final ticket

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will battle the hosts of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco today (Wednesday) in a semifinal clash.

The Eagles, led by Eric Chelle, has had a very fine run in the competition, defeating Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda in the group stages.

In the knockout stages, the Nigerian men have seen off Zimbabwe with a whopping 4-0 victory before pulling off a dominance show against Algeria to win 2-0.

Nigeria are on the brink of reaching the final like they did in the last edition in Cote d’Ivoire, but they have the hosts standing on their way today.

Speaking ahead of the clash against Morocco, Nigeria’s Awaziem said: “We saw the Moroccan team supporting us against the Algerians, and I know that some will still be supporting us.

“We don’t care about the support, we don’t care about the crowd we just want to focus on ourselves, not get distracted and try to get the job done,” he added.

Morocco goalkeeper Monir El Kajoui has also declared the team was ready for battle against the Super Eagles.

“As players, we hear everything, but we know the real response must come on the pitch. We focus on our work, trust the coach and the group, and our objective is always to honour the national shirt and give our very best,” El Kajoui said.

The semi-final clash inside the Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat will kick off at 9:00p.m Nigeria time.

The first semifinal clash will be between Egypt and Senegal. Winners from the clashes will play in the final billed for Sunday, 18 January, 2026.
