Former South Africa international, Teko Modise, has said that it would be very difficult for Nigeria to go pass Morocco in the semifinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Egypt, Senegal, Morocco and Nigeria are the teams in the semifinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Senegal beat Mali 1-0 while Morocco saw off Cameroon 2-0 in earlier matches played Friday.
And on Saturday, Nigeria booked a place in the semifinals by beating Algeria 2-0 and Egypt sent Ivory Coast back home with a 3-2 victory.
On Wednesday, Nigeria will play the host nation Morocco, while Egypt take on Senegal in the semifinals.
Speaking on SuperSport, Modise said he had wished it were Nigeria and Morocco playing in the final, a fixture that is no longer possible as both teams will meet earlier in the semifinals.
“I wish it was Morocco on the other side, and because I wanted to see Morocco and Nigeria in the final, but it’s going to be very tough for Nigeria to progress, because you have a team that has the wind on their back, which is the fans also have so much to play for,” Modise said.
“They’re the host and haven’t lost a game in two years. It’s going to be very, very difficult, but I see Nigeria with the quality of individuals that they have, they might pull through and cause the biggest upset in the tournament so far, but I see maybe Senegal and Morocco in the final.”
Nigeria have beaten the likes of Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique and Algeria so far in the tournament.
