Severe traffic congestion was recorded on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Saturday morning following an accident involving a truck that toppled and blocked a section of the road.
The incident occurred in the early hours around the Ogere Bridge area, disrupting traffic flow for vehicles travelling towards Ibadan, Saapade, Alapako and neighbouring communities.
Findings showed that the obstruction forced motorists to divert to the opposite lane, which in turn triggered serious gridlock on the Lagos-bound carriageway, affecting movement towards Mowe, Ibafo and surrounding areas.
As of the time of reporting, traffic on both sides of the expressway had come to a near standstill, with many road users stranded for several hours.
It was gathered that the truck fell late on Friday night, but the resulting congestion worsened by Saturday morning as traffic volume increased.
Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps were deployed to the scene to manage traffic and work towards restoring free movement.
Officials at the location, who declined to be named as they were not authorised to speak to the media, attributed the incident to a mechanical fault.
They disclosed that efforts were ongoing to clear the obstruction and reopen at least one lane to ease the gridlock and reduce the hardship faced by motorists.
