Police Foil Armed Robbery, Recover Firearm In Nasarawa

Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have foiled an armed robbery operation in Mararaba, Karu local government area.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the armed robbers attacked a wine shop on Calvary Road yesterday morning and attempted to dispossess the operators of cash and other items, but the timely arrival of police operatives at the scene saved the day.

According to the command’s public relations officer, Ramhan Nandel, a Superintendent of Police, operatives from the Mararaba ‘A’ Division were dispatched to the scene following a distress call by a witness of  the robbery attempt.

He said on sighting the advancing operatives, the robbers fled the scene, and in the ensuing pursuit, abandoned a Beretta pistol one of them was using for the operation.

“Upon swift response to the scene, the police operatives disrupted the robbery operation, forcing the criminals to flee in disarray upon sighting the police. In the process, the suspects abandoned a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, which was recovered by the police,” he explained.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and directed that the case and the recovered exhibits be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for thorough investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police further reassures members of the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating all forms of crime and criminality in Nasarawa State,” he noted.
