Bauchi appoints 142 new district heads

Published:

The Bauchi State government has appointed 142 new district heads across 20 emirates and one chiefdom in the state to boost traditional leadership and grassroots administration.

The Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Abubakar Muhammad Wabi, announced the appointments during a press briefing in Bauchi.

He said all the appointees have already received their appointment letters and can begin work immediately.

According to Wabi, the appointments followed the Bauchi State Chieftaincy (Appointment and Deposition) Law 2025, which guides the restructuring and recognition of traditional institutions in the state.

“This exercise is backed by law and aimed at strengthening traditional governance at the local level,” he said.

He explained that the new law led to the creation of 20 Emirate Councils and Chiefdoms, making it necessary to appoint qualified district heads to manage community affairs effectively.

Wabi added that the move would improve cooperation between traditional rulers and government authorities, especially at the grassroots.

“The appointments will help ensure better coordination between the government and traditional institutions,” he noted.

The commission chairman praised Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for supporting reforms in the traditional system and thanked other stakeholders for their cooperation.

He advised the new district heads to serve their communities with fairness and accountability, stressing that the state government remains committed to peace, unity and sustainable development.
