US Working With Venezuelan Vice President — Trump

Published:

President Donald Trump has said that the United States is now working with Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez following the capture of President Nicolás Maduro.

Speaking at a press conference in Florida on Saturday, Trump said Rodríguez had been sworn in as president, but noted that she was “picked by Maduro.”

When asked by reporters whether he was willing to work with her, Trump said the US had already made contact, adding that Secretary of State Marco Rubio “just had a conversation with her, and she’s essentially willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again.”

He added later that Rodríguez “had a long conversation with Marco, and she said, ‘We’ll do whatever you need.’ … I think she was quite gracious, but she really doesn’t have a choice.”

This followed earlier remarks made by Trump in which he said the United States was going to “run Venezuela” until a safe transition of power can take place, following US military operations on the South America Nation which ousted President Maduro.
