Nigeria does not need Netanyahu’s help to fight terrorism, Buhari’s ex-aide Ahmed

Published:

A former aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has kicked against the declaration by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, that his country will join hands with the United States to create a new front to protect persecuted Christian communities in Nigeria.

Ahmad who made his position known in a post on his X handle on Friday, said the involvement of Israel and other foreign countries in Nigeria’s internal affairs militarily, including potential airstrikes on Islamic terrorists, is unacceptable and an infringement on the country’s sovereignty.

Ahmad made the assertion following Netanyahu’s Christmas Day message to Christian Zionist supporters where he announced that Israel would open a “new front” to defend Christian populations facing persecution in several countries, explicitly naming Nigeria alongside Syria, Lebanon, and Turkey.

The Israeli leader had noted that the initiative was part of a global struggle against radical Shiite Islamic movement linked to Iran and radical Sunni Islam associated with groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood, insisting that threats to Judeo-Christian civilization were spreading to Africa and beyond.

However, in his post. Ahmad stated that Netanyahu’s offer was not only insulting to Nigeria but unnecessary.

Addressing the Israeli strongman, Ahmad said:

“Nigeria doesn’t need your help. Nigeria needs all legitimate support it can get to address its security challenges, but certainly not from individuals facing ongoing genocide trials before an international court.”
