Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, marking a significant political shift in the state’s leadership landscape.
The resignation was conveyed in a letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Dasjak Sunday Longyol.
The letter, obtained in Jos on Thursday, stated that the governor decided to seek another political platform to better serve Plateau State.
Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the PDP for giving him the opportunity to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process and advance his political career.
He said his decision was driven by a desire for purposeful leadership, clearer direction, and improved service delivery to the people.
The personally signed letter read, “I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect.”
“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process.”
“I appreciate the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.”
“Given the realities of the moment, and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform.”
“Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”
The letter did not state which political party the governor has chosen to join.
The resignation follows months of political speculation, with reports suggesting that Mutfwang has aligned with the All Progressives Congress.
Officials of the APC National Working Committee have reportedly welcomed the governor and pledged support for his new political path.
