Gabon has suspended its entire national team and sacked the coaches.
The duo of Pierre-Emerick and Bruno Ecuele Manga have also been banned until further notice.
The country’s Sports Minister, Simplice-Desire Mamboula, confirmed the decision on Gabonese TV.
Mamboula described their performance at the AFCON as “disgraceful” while making the announcement.
“Given the Panthers’ disgraceful performance at the AFCON, the government has decided to dissolve the technical staff, suspend the national team until further notice, and remove players Bruno Ecuele Manga and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,” Mamboula said.
This comes on the same day Gabon was eliminated from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Panthers’ 3-2 loss to Ivory Coast confirmed their early exit from the tournament.
They finished bottom of Group F, below Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Mozambique.
