Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has launched the 2026 emblem appeal week with a donation of N30m on behalf of the state government and a personal donation of N5m to the state branch of the Nigeria Legion.
The Governor lauded the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes in local, regional and international engagements to build peace, security and liberty.
“The day also reminds us of the enormous contributions made by the gallant Nigerian soldiers to the fight against security challenges including the Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping and other forms of criminality bedeviling the country.
“We note with sadness that in the course of these patriotic duties, many of our soldiers lost their lives, while several others maimed for life in defence of the sovereignty, peace and unity of our dear nation. They paid the supreme price for the country and humanity to enjoy peace, security and liberty.
“The gallant Nigerian soldiers have brilliantly and gallantly made Nigeria proud in the comity of nations, particularly in the United Nations, ECOWAS, other regional and international organizations”, Buni said .
The Governor called on individuals, groups and corporate organizations to contribute generously to support the families of the fallen heroes.
