Bauchi Governor Signs N877bn 2026 Budget Into Law

Published:

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, on Wednesday, signed the N877 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, paving the way for the full implementation of the budget from January 1, 2026.

The governor had presented a proposed budget of N878 billion to the Bauchi State House of Assembly in November for consideration and approval. Following this, lawmakers subjected the estimates to detailed scrutiny before passing them.

Speaking during the signing of the budget at the Exco Chamber of the Government House in Bauchi, Governor Mohammed commended the Assembly for a thorough and transparent legislative process.

He noted that the consideration of the budget was marked by legislative rigour and adherence to democratic standards.

The governor explained that the budget defence process was robust, with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) invited to defend their proposals in line with best democratic practices.

According to the governor, the final budget reflects a prudent reduction of about N1 billion in recurrent expenditure compared with the initial proposal submitted to the Assembly.

He described the adjustment as a shared commitment between the executive and legislature to fiscal responsibility, adding that it also demonstrates the independence of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

Speaking earlier, the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman, said the House ensured a transparent and inclusive review of the budget estimates before approving them.

Sulaiman noted that lawmakers carefully examined submissions from MDAs to ensure the budget aligns with the state’s development priorities and addresses the needs of the people.

He assured residents that the Assembly would closely monitor its implementation to ensure prudent utilisation of public funds and the delivery of tangible benefits to citizens across the state.
