The Taraba State Police Command on Saturday dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that alleged a planned terrorist attack in parts of the state, urging residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear.
In a statement, the Command said it is fully aware of the video and has already taken proactive steps, in collaboration with other security agencies, to assess and address the situation.
Signed by the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Mshelizah, the statement emphasised that there is no cause for panic, noting that adequate security measures have been put in place to forestall any threat.
“Under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, intelligence-driven strategies and operational deployments have been strengthened across the state to safeguard lives and property.
“Residents are advised to go about their lawful activities as security operatives have been strategically positioned in critical areas, with heightened surveillance ongoing,” the command said.
However, the police called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements, individuals, or objects to the nearest police station or relevant security outfit.
The Command stressed that timely and credible information from citizens would aid swift and effective responses by security agencies.
The police also cautioned against the spread of unverified information, warning that such actions could incite unnecessary fear and panic among residents. Citizens were encouraged to rely on official sources for accurate updates.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Police Command said it remains resolute in ensuring the safety and security of all residents, in collaboration with other security agencies.
