The Delta State Police Command and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in the state have assured Muslim faithful and residents of adequate security.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, directed strategic deployment of personnel across the state to ensure a peaceful and secure Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
According to him, a robust operational deployment comprising conventional police personnel, tactical units and other operational assets has been emplaced at all Eid prayer grounds and other strategic locations across the state.
Adesola warned criminal elements, including cultists and other mischief-makers, to desist from unlawful acts, stressing that the Command is fully prepared to deal decisively with any threat to public peace.
In a statement issued in Asaba on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, the CP directed Divisional Police Officers, Area Commanders, and Tactical Commanders to intensify intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts and black spots.
Also, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations is to ensure effective coordination and supervision of all deployments for the sustenance of peace and security before, during, and after the celebrations.
Similarly, the NSCDC in the state announced the deployment of 1,070 personnel in a statewide security operation aimed at safeguarding lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
The Delta State Commandant of the NSCDC, Chinedu Igbo, ordered the large-scale deployment, directing officers to secure prayer grounds, recreational centres, schools and other facilities considered vital to economic and social stability.
Other areas are critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as public spaces that are expected to witness large gatherings during the celebrations.
The Command stressed that the protection of critical infrastructure, including schools and key public utilities, remains central to the operation, particularly during periods that historically attract heightened security risks.
In a statement issued in Asaba by the Command’s spokesperson, Anthony Uchenna, the commandant emphasised the need for heightened vigilance and coordination among all units.
The directive also extends to component commanders and special forces that have been mandated to identify and secure flashpoints across the state.
The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to working in synergy with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
The commandant in the same vein extended goodwill to Muslim faithful in Delta State, Nigeria, and across the world, wishing them a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr, while expressing hope for a more secure and progressive nation.
