Jos – The Plateau State House of Assembly has passed the second reading of a bill seeking to repeal and re-enact the Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission Law.
Sponsored by Hon. Dr. Aliyu Adamu, representing Jos North North Constituency, the legislation aims to modernize the legal framework governing the Commission and enhance the administrative autonomy of the state legislature.
Speaking during plenary, Dr. Adamu said the proposed law would replace outdated provisions with a comprehensive framework to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability. He explained that the re-enacted law would empower the Commission to manage recruitment, appointments, promotions, discipline, and welfare of legislative staff effectively.
The bill also includes provisions for staff training, capacity building, and career progression. The motion for second reading was seconded by Hon. Mark Sunday Na’ah, representing Jos North West Constituency.
Lawmakers commended the sponsor for the initiative, highlighting its potential to strengthen the administrative structure and operational efficiency of the House. Speaker Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel directed the Clerk to read the bill a second time.
Following the second reading, the bill was referred to the relevant committee for further consideration. The Speaker thanked members for their contributions and commitment to legislative duties.
