Scores of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have been killed in multiple and coordinated attacks on Kukawa town, Dalwa village and Goniri communities.
Kukawa town, is the Council Headquarters of Kukawa located on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno, Dalwa village is a newly resettled community of Konduga Local Government area, and an outskirts of Maiduguri Metropolis.
Goniri town is in Gujba Local government area of Yobe State which is also located in the middle of Sambisa Forests.
Sources and unconfirmed reports indicated that the Kukawa attack which took place on Sunday night targeted at a Military Base, which was repelled by troops of Joint Task Force North East ‘Operation HADIN KAI’ with support from the Air Component resulting in the deaths of many terrorists, while few security agencies also paid the supreme price.
Zagazola Makama, a security expert in his post on Monday said: ” A heavy gun battle between troops and suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State has resulted in casualties on both sides.
“The clash occurred when insurgents reportedly attacked a military camp, prompting troops to engage in a prolonged firefight.
“Items recovered from the insurgents’ positions within the camp include bandoliers of PKT rounds, one AK-47 rifle, one BHT machine gun, two mortar bombs, and four hand grenades.
“Blood stains and drags outside the camp, suggesting insurgent casualties during the encounter.
“In a related development, troops reportedly intercepted an injured terrorist fighter in the community who was being brought to the camp. The suspect attempted to escape, prompting additional gunfire, the sources said.
“The situation remains under control, with troops continuing to secure the area and conduct follow-up operations to track remaining insurgents”. He said.
On the Dalwa village invasion, Source said, “75% of the housing estates built and allocated to returnee residents after the displacement for over 10 years were all set ablaze with scores of casualties on innocent civilians”.
The Source revealed that the attackers invaded the community at about 1:am and wrecked havoc.
More so, same Troops of Operation Desert Sanity under the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have repelled a terrorist attack on their position in Borno, killing at least two insurgents and recovering weapons and communication equipment.
Security sources said the attack occurred at about 2:20 a.m. on Sunday when terrorists attempted to attack Special forces troops on clearance Operations in Sambisa forest.
The troops, however, engaged the attackers in a fierce firefight and successfully repelled the assault without recording any casualty.
According to the report, no soldier was killed, or wounded during the encounter, and no military equipment was damaged.
“Following the repulsion of the attack, troops conducted exploitation of the area where two terrorist corpses were sighted with traces of blood, indicating that the insurgents evacuated some of their dead and the wounded”. The Source said.
Continuing “Items recovered from the terrorists include one PKT machine gun, three rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs, 51 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm ammunition, and 108 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition.
“Troops also recovered two Baofeng communication radios, one Redmi Android mobile phone, and three Airtel SIM cards believed to belong to the insurgents”. He stated.
The sources said that the troops maintain high morale and operational effectiveness as clearance operations continue under Operation Desert Sanity V.
In another development, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai has neutralised several terrorists during a coordinated air response to an attack on troops of the 120 Battalion under Sector 2 in Goniri, Yobe State.
Sources said that the incident occurred at about 0015 hours on Monday, when insurgents attempted to overrun the military location.
According to the sources, the terrorists infiltrated the Goniri position and engaged troops in a fierce battle after they breach the defensive perimeter.
“Upon receiving the distress call from troops on ground, the Air Component immediately scrambled fighter aircraft to provide close air support,” the sources said.
He explained that the aircraft swiftly acquired the hostile elements around the location and conducted precision strikes on identified terrorist positions.
“The fighter jets released two bombs on the insurgents’ positions with devastating accuracy, resulting in the elimination of at least 10 terrorists who were trying to fled on sighting the fighting aircraft.
“The prompt response of the Air Component significantly disrupted the terrorists’ attack and restored tactical advantage to our troops on ground,” he said.
Another Source revealed that some suspected fighters of the Islamic State in the Sahel (IS-Sahel) launched an attack on Tahoua Airport in western Niger Republic early Monday, targeting a military air base hosting the Nigerien Air Force’s Bayraktar TB2 drone fleet.
Zagazola Makama also collaborated and said that the insurgents struck the facility in the early hours of Monday at about 1:30 am, triggering exchanges of gunfire around the air base located in Tahoua region.
“The air base is considered a strategic installation for Niger’s counterterrorism operations, as it hosts the Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) used for surveillance and precision strikes against insurgent groups across the Sahel”. Makama stated.
There is no official statement on any of the incidents by Security Operatives at press time.
