Published:

Ogun State has recorded a surge in Women Affinity Group, WAG, formations under the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up, NFWP-SU, reaffirming its drive for women’s economic empowerment and financial inclusion.

The State Project Coordinator, Bolanle Fadairo, accompanied by the Project Procurement Officer and Secretary, reaffirmed its drive during a review session in Ijebu-Ode and Ado-Odo/Ota local government areas.

DAILY POST reports that the session was aimed at strengthening implementation and expanding beneficiary reach.

Addressing participants at the meetings, Fadairo, commended the collaborative efforts of the Local Field Supervisors and Women Affinity Group Supporting Officers.

She said, “Through the real time data monitor, 852 WAGs have been formed in Ijebu-Ode, while 777 groups have been established in Ado-Odo/Ota, these figures are a yielding result of the dedication of field officers and the growing acceptance of the world-bank sponsored programme among women.

“National statistics currently rank the State among the leading states in programme performance; therefore all hands must be on deck to maintain high standards.

“These review sessions were designed to assess progress, correct identified gaps in meeting procedures and record-keeping, and ensure strict adherence to operational guidelines.

“We are here to encourage facilitators to promote savings culture among members, ensure proper documentation, particularly passbook management and maximize the use of the programme’s toll-free line for support and feedback,” Fadairo remarked.

Highlighting the role of technology, the project coordinator added that real-time monitoring tools are being deployed to track enrollment and ensure efficiency, underscoring that compliance with established guidelines has positioned Ogun as a model state under the NFWP-SU framework.

In their separate remarks, the Local Field Supervisors for Ijebu-Ode and Ado-Odo/Ota, Omoju Olugbenga and Kayode Kikisagbe respectively, applauded the state government and the program’s team for prioritizing women’s economic empowerment.

They pledged to intensify grassroots mobilization and sustain quality implementation to guarantee the continued success of the programme across the implementing LGA.
