Founder of Jide Ajose Productions JAP, Jide Ajose, has said that while production quality in Nigeria’s creative industry has improved significantly, flashy visuals alone are not enough to guarantee lasting impact.
Ajose, who has worked with creatives across music, film and digital content creation, said the industry must begin to place stronger emphasis on rich storytelling as the foundation for visual engagement.
According to him, many projects focus heavily on aesthetics, luxury locations, expensive props and trendy concepts, but often overlook narrative depth.
“Visuals may grab attention, but attention is not the same thing as impact. If there is no strong story behind the camera, the audience may watch it once and move on. Storytelling is what creates emotional connection. It is what makes people remember.
We are in a time where Nigerian content is competing on a global stage. You cannot rely on flashy shots alone. Audiences today are smarter and more exposed. They are looking for authenticity, depth and meaning.
Before you think about the lights, the camera angles or the location, ask yourself, what story am I telling? What emotion am I trying to create? When the story is rich, the visuals naturally become powerful. Without story, visuals are empty.
Strong narratives give creatives identity. They separate you from the noise. In the end, people may admire beautiful scenes, but they remember stories that make them feel something,” Ajose said.
