The Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD, has attributed the peace nature of the just concluded Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Area Councils election to the low voter turnout.
Director of CDD, Dauda Garuba, made this attribution on Monday when he featured in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’.
Recall that the Area Council election in the FCT took place over the weekend where the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, won five Area Councils while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, clinched the Gwagwalada Area Council.
Meanwhile, little or no violence was reported across the FCT during the exercise.
Reacting, Garuba said, “The recent election was notably peaceful, despite minor issues.
“This tranquility can be attributed to the significantly low voter turnout, which reduced opportunities for conflict.
“This low turnout was evident even in a specific police unit, where only two out of 1168 registered voters had cast their ballots by the time of observation.
“There was a polling unit in Kuje where, out of 1168 registered voters, only 2 people had voted when I got there.
“I saw residents prioritizing their morning activities before eventually arriving to vote later in the day.”
