A Kwara State High Court, presided over by Justice Oba Muritala Folorunsho, has convicted 22-year-old Ishaq AbdulRazaq for sexual abuse and exploitation of a five-year-old minor.
According to the charge, the defendant was accused of genital rubbing on July 21, 2025, at Gaa-Odota Area, in Ilorin metropolis.
The court after thorough examination of the case, found the defendant guilty of sexual exploitation of the child by rubbing his genitals with that of the girl child, contrary to Section 32(2) of the Child Rights Law of Kwara State.
The Defence Counsel, Dr.Bunmi Bewaji, in his remark, pleaded with the court that the defendant was a 22-year-old young man who has been remorseful and ready to change.
He further emphasized that he is a first time offender and should be given a second chance.
Justice Folorunsho, in his judgement, sentenced the defendant to one and a half year imprisonment for the offence as charged.
“This judgment serves as a stern warning to perpetrators of child abuse and exploitation that the Kwara State judiciary will not tolerate such heinous crimes,” the judge declared.
He commended the efforts of the law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Justice in ensuring justice for the victim and her family.
“We urge parents and guardians to be vigilant and protect their children from predators. We also call on victims of child abuse to speak out and seek help,” he added.
The judge further asserted that “the judgment is a testament to the commitment of the Kwara State government to protect the rights and dignity of children and to ensure that perpetrators of child abuse face the full wrath of the law”.
