2027 Election: “INEC’s N1trn Budget Enough To Prosecute Real Time Electronic Results Transmission” – Natasha Akpoti

Published:

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has reacted to the Senate’s latest update on the electronic transmission of election results, insisting that real-time transmission is not only achievable but long overdue in Nigeria’s electoral process.

Speaking amid renewed debates over the credibility and efficiency of election result collation, the Kogi Central lawmaker stressed that technological limitations should no longer serve as an excuse for delays or inconsistencies.

According to her, “Absolute real-time transmission is possible. INEC should partner with Starlink for remote connectivity. With INEC’s 2026 budget at ₦1.01 trillion, there are zero excuses.”

Her comments come as conversations intensify around strengthening Nigeria’s electoral transparency, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas where poor internet connectivity has often been cited as a challenge to seamless electronic transmission.

By suggesting a partnership with Starlink — a satellite internet service known for providing connectivity in remote locations — Senator Akpoti highlighted what she believes is a practical solution to bridging the digital gap during elections.

The statement has sparked fresh discussions among political stakeholders and citizens on the feasibility, cost implications, and potential impact of deploying satellite technology to safeguard the integrity of future elections.

As preparations for upcoming electoral cycles continue, calls for improved transparency and accountability remain at the forefront of national discourse.
