2 Killed As Security Forces Clash With Youths In Katsina

Published:

Two people were killed and several others injured in a violent clash between security forces and youths in Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters, in Katsina, Katsina State.

The incident occurred when police raided a hideout in the area, arresting a suspected drug peddler, Uzairu, alias Kuda, who was in possession of illicit drugs and a dangerous weapon.

Kuda resisted arrest, and his associates attacked the police team, damaging a vehicle and injuring officers on lawful duty.

During the scuffle, Kuda was shot and he later died at the hospital. His funeral procession on Saturday turned violent, with suspected miscreants burning an NSCDC outpost and attempting to torch a police station.

Police reinforcements were deployed, and the situation was eventually brought under control. However, stray bullets hit two people, killing one and injuring the other.

The Katsina State Police Command has ordered an investigation into the incident and appealed for calm.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered an immediate thorough investigation into the matter to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident,” said the Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Aliyu Sadiq.

“We call on the public to remain calm and support and cooperate with the command as the investigation proceeds. We urge everyone to exercise maximum restraint and avoid taking the law into their own hands.”
